About Us

Our Mission

To be a facilitator and advocate in the Baltimore Region to SOCCER PLAYERS who share the passion that playing, participating, watching, providing and supporting the sport should be a rewarding and  positive influence in the community.

Our Purpose

That  Baltimore Adult Soccer League (BASL) provides a well run, fun opportunity for adult soccer players of all experience levels to socialize and compete via the “Beautiful Game”. Whether you are a former college player or haven’t touched a soccer ball since you were a kid, this league is for you. By using Canton’s Bonvegna field and Utz Field at Patterson Park , BASL seeks to provide a high-quality, convenient field locations for our games. With open-minded and friendly staff, we look forward to working (and playing) with all of you to make sure this is the best recreational adult soccer league that Baltimore has to offer. Thanks to you,  we are continuing to grow!

Our History

After moving to Baltimore in July of 2009, our founder, Mike LeJeune, quickly realized that few adult rec soccer leagues existed. The few that he found were in distant suburbs, on poor fields, and/or were poorly run. After meeting fellow soccer lovers in Fells Point, Canton, and surrounding areas he knew there was an opportunity to bring a fun, competitive league to the area – BASL was formed. As with any new league there will undoubtedly be growing pains, but we look forward to improving with your feedback each season.

Mike found that he was being pulled in several directions and one that was going to take him out of the area. Far enough that he would not be able to run BASL effectively from another state. So he decided to turn over the management of the league to  another long-term soccer fan who has been involved with the soccer community not only Baltimore but in Howard County.

About Norma Jean Keefer

Who had been entrenched in the soccer community by managing adult soccer teams in Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City & Frederick as well as raising a talented college bound daughter.  Norma Jean’s associations are far reaching into many facets of soccer and her credentials and experience convinced Mike that he was leaving BASL in good hands, and that there was going to be a bright future for the league. His words to her were “grow the league”.

Since taking over the day to day operations of the league,  BASL has  tripled in size of players. Expanded onto three fields. Added a 6v6 league and now has indoor and is affiliated with two annual tournaments.

Norma Jean is highly committed to the game of soccer in Maryland. She currently is on the Board for the Maryland Old Timer Association, Delegate at Large for Maryland State Soccer Association, Certified Md State Referee, and is a licensed Coach with the US Soccer Federation.

Norma Jean Keefer in looking to further grow and establish BASL as the premier adult recreational soccer league in the Baltimore and the mid-Atlantic transferred BASL to Maryland Soccer Marketing, LLC the company that manages the elite Maryland Major Soccer League, the Baltimore Mayor’s Cup & Soccer Festival, and Baltimore St. Patrick Cup. With this transfer, BASL becomes the first and only co-ed soccer league in the state sanctioned by the Maryland State Soccer Association and United States Adult Soccer Association. Maryland Soccer Marketing, LLC in turn has contracted to retain the services of Ms. Keefer to utilize her 15+ years of adult soccer league experience. So players and managers can still expect to see Norma Jean at the field and to receive the same standard of service and league management.

August 2017

BSSC BaltimoreBaltimore Sports & Social Club (BSSC) acquires BASL from Maryland Soccer Marketing, LLC. BSSC is owned and run by Mike Cray since 1998 and has been a pioneer and leader in adult sports leagues both recreationally and competitively. Additionally Mike is a huge contributor to Santa Claus Anonymous and various local youth and social organizations not only donating money but his time and that of his very devoted player members.  Since BSSC started, it has enjoyed rapid growth and year round popularity in football, softball, volleyball, whiffleball, and cornhole. Adding  soccer will complete a full complement of sports that BSSC offers.

At this time, Norma Jean Keefer will be retained to help with transitioning and implementing BSSC policy, updating and reviewing any further needed improvements that will enhance the BASL player member experience.
